I have a working internet connection through my router (or modem router) but not via my range extender. What could the problem be?

Follow the instructions below to find out why you do not have internet access through the range extender.

Range extender

First check whether your range extender is correctly connected to the mains and is powered on. Then make sure your device (PC, laptop, tablet, etc.) is correctly connected to your range extender. Click here for more information on how to check if your devices is connected to the range extender.

Location

If possible, place your range extender right next to your router. Or, if possible, move your router as close as possible to your range extender. Make sure they remain connected to each other. Now get a wireless device, such as a tablet or laptop, and place it right next to the range extender. Test whether you can access the internet. First make sure you are connected to the range extender, of course.

If it works now, your router (or modem router) and range extender were too far apart, or the distance between your wireless device and the range extender was too great. The only thing you can do is change the setup. Reduce the distance between your router (or modem router) and range extender, and make sure there are no metal objects between the two devices. These can disrupt the signal. Also consider interference from other appliances; microwaves and baby monitors operate on the same frequency and can severely disrupt your Wi-Fi signal.

The same applies to your wireless device. It must be able to find the signal from your range extender, and your range extender must also be able to reach the device. Click here for more information on where to position devices.

The settings in the router (or modem router) and range extender must match

Was there no improvement after optimising your network setup? Then it is possible there are differences between the settings of your range extender and router (or modem router). If the settings are not the same in both devices, a correct connection will not be made with your range extender. If this is the case, we recommend re-installing the range extender. Sitecom range extenders automatically copy the needed settings from your (modem) router after installation. Click here for more information on how to install your range extender.
